ASTM A815 encompasses two main classes， WP and CR， of stainless steel fittings made of wrought ferritic， ferritic/austenitic， and martensitic materials， available in both seamless and welded construction. Class WP fittings are further divided into four subclasses: WP-S， WP-W， WP-WX， and WP-WU. The fittings can be made from forgings， bars， plates， or seamless/welded tubular products.
The steel used for these fittings is melted using electric furnaces， vacuum furnaces， or electric furnaces followed by vacuum or electroslag-consumable remelting. Forging or shaping operations can be carried out through methods such as hammering， pressing， piercing， extruding， upsetting， rolling， bending， fusion welding， machining， or a combination of two or more of these techniques.
