What is 904L Nickel Alloy Steel pipe ?
904L stainless steel consists of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and copper, these elements give 904L stainless steel excellent performance, because of the addition of copper, corrosion resistance in dilute sulfuric acid, 904L is usually used in high-pressure and corrosive environments, whereas 316L and 317L do not perform well. 904L has a high content of nickel and a low carbon content, and the addition of copper alloys improves its corrosion resistance. L" in 904L stands for low carbon, is a typical super austenitic stainless steel, equivalent grades for DIN 1.4539 and UNS N08904, 904L has better performance performance than other austenitic stainless steel.
The characteristics of ASTM B677 TP904L
Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking due to the presence of large amounts of nickel.
Resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion and to intergranular corrosion.
Grade 904L is less resistant to nitric acid.
Excellent formability, toughness and weldability, can be welded using any standard method due to the low carbon composition, 904L cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
904L is non-magnetic and is an austenitic stainless steel, therefore 904L has austenitic structural properties.
Heat resistant, 904L grade stainless steel has good oxidation resistance. However, the structural stability of this grade breaks down at elevated temperatures, especially above 400°C. The grade has a good resistance to oxidation.
Heat treatable, Grade 904L stainless steel can be solution heat treated at 1090 to 1175°C, followed by rapid cooling. Heat treatment is suitable for hardening these grades.
