specification covers UNS N08020, UNS N08026 and UNS N08024 nickel-alloy seamless, cold-worked or hot-finished pipe and tube intended for general corrosive service. The product of UNS N08020 alloy, UNS N08026 alloy, and UNS N08024 alloy shall be furnished in the stabilized-annealed condition, solution-annealed condition, and annealed condition, respectively. The tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation requirements are specified. Hydrostatic and nondestructive electric tests shall be conducted on the each pipe or tube.
What is Alloy 20?
Alloy 20 was designed specifically to withstand sulfuric acid. Its nickel, chromium, molybdenum and copper levels all provide excellent general corrosion resistance. Restricted carbon plus columbium stabilization permits welded fabrications to be used in corrosive environments, normally without post-weld heat treatment. At 33% nickel, Alloy 20 has practical immunity to chloride stress corrosion cracking. This alloy is often chosen to solve SCC problems, which may occur with 316L stainless.
Niobium stabilized Alloy 20 Pipe is also referred to as carpenter 20 or known by its trade name UNS N08020. Developed to exhibit good corrosion resistance properties, the Carpenter Alloy is an alloy which has exceptional resistance to sulfuric acid. The content of copper added to the Alloy 20 is what protects this metal grade against sulfuric acid. Hence, the Carpenter 20 Pipe UNS N08020 Pipe finds use in key industrial sectors such as chemical, petrochemical, power generation, as well as the plastic industries
