What is AL6XN?

AL-6XN is an alloy made of nickel, chromium and molybdenum. The percentage of composition of these 3 elements in the alloy is as follows, Nickel 24%, Chromium 22% and Molybdenum 6.3%, with traces of other elements such as Nitrogen. AL6XN is a super austenitic stainless steel with low carbon and high purity. The UNS designation for this alloy is N08367.

AL-6XN shows a good resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking due to the high nickel and molybdenum contents. Because of the molybdenum content, it is also resistant to chloride pitting. The nitrogen content serves to further increase pitting resistance and also gives it higher strength than typical 300 series austenitic stainless steels, and thereby often allows it to be used in thinner sections. And the nitrogen content of AL6XN gives it a greater tensile strength than common austenitic stainless steels, while retaining high ductility and impact strength.
