What is inconel 600 pipe?
Inconel 600 pipe can be ordered using the Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) standard and a nominal diameter (pipe size) and schedule (wall thickness). This nickel based ASTM B167 600 Inconel Pipe has been designed for use across a wide range of temperature settings. Which would mean that the ASME SB167 Alloy 600 is used in applications, where the temperature could be at extreme ends i.e. – from cryogenic to elevated temperatures in the range of up to 2000 degree F.
Inconel 600 alloy has the following characteristics:
1.Has good resistance to reduction, oxidation and nitriding medium corrosion
2.Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking at room temperature and high temperature
3.Has good resistance to dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride gas corrosion
4.Excellent mechanical properties at subzero, room temperature and high temperature
5.It has good creep rupture strength and is recommended for working environment above 700 °C.
Corrosion resistance of Inconel 600:
Alloy 600 is corrosion resistant to a variety of corrosive media. The chromium composition gives the alloy better corrosion resistance under oxidizing conditions than nickel 99.2 (alloy 200) and nickel 99.2 (alloy 201, low carbon).
At the same time, the higher nickel content makes the alloy have good corrosion resistance in reducing conditions and alkaline solution, and can effectively prevent chlorine-iron stress corrosion cracking.
Alloy 600 has good corrosion resistance in organic acids such as acetic acid, acetic acid, formic acid, and stearic acid, and has moderate corrosion resistance in inorganic acids. It has excellent corrosion resistance in high purity water used in primary and secondary recycling in nuclear reactors.
The outstanding performance of the 600 is resistant to corrosion by dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride at temperatures up to 650 °C. At high temperatures, the annealed and solution treated alloys have excellent resistance to oxidative spalling and high strength in air.
The alloy is also resistant to ammonia and nitriding, carburizing atmospheres, but when the redox conditions alternate, the alloy will be corroded by some oxidizing medium (such as green death liquid)
