Abstract of ASTM A790

 

The specification covers seamless and straight-seam welded ferritic/austenitic steel pipe for general corrosive service， with particular emphasis on resistance to stress corrosion cracking. The pipe shall be made by the seamless or an automatic welding process， with no addition of filler metal in the welding operation. Heat analysis shall be made to determine the percentages of the elements specified. Tension tests， hardening tests， flattening tests， hydrostatic tests and nondestructive electric tests shall be made to conform to the specified requirements.

 

 

About Grade UNS S31803

 

Stainless steel alloy grades such as UNS S31803 prove to be particularly useful in applications that are susceptible to stress related corrosion cracking. SCC or stress related corrosion cracking in pipes can have harmful effects on not only the workers in the factory but also to the business itself. Since ASTM A790 UNS S31803 Duplex Steel is resistant to SCC， the piping system becomes durable and it has longevity in comparison to conventional steels.

 

Besides having superior resistance to SCC， the ASME SA 790 UNS S31803 Pipe has improved mechanical characteristics like higher yield strength， which incidentally is almost twice that of a traditional austenitic stainless steel alloy. Pipes under specification ASTM A790， are produced either in a seamless manner or they have a welded construction. The automatic welding process used to weld the ASTM A790 Pipe is to be done without the use of any filler metal. The specification also calls for determining the percentage of elements used to alloy both ASTM A790 Grade UNS S31803 Welded Pipe and seamlessly constructed ones as well. Testing is also an important parameter of these pipes. In addition to a nondestructive electric test， the ASTM A790 UNS S31803 is required to conform to the values of tension test， flattening tests， hydrostatic tests as well as a hardening test.
