ASTM A269 TP304 Bright Annealed Tube which sets the requirements for seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel tubing. Bright annealed is a heat treatment process that improves the tube's corrosion resistance and creates a polished finish. This type of tube is commonly used in applications that require high levels of corrosion resistance, such as in the food and beverage industry or in medical equipment. The tube is typically available in a range of sizes and wall thicknesses to suit different applications.
1. Bright annealed welded pipe
The welded pipe is annealed in a vacuum controlled atmosphere to keep the surface free of oxidation and brightness. In this bright annealing process, protective gas is inserted into a closed furnace. Usually, the gas is purified hydrogen or a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen from dissociated ammonia. When the pipe is heated to a certain specified temperature and cooled rapidly, a bright and smooth protective layer is formed on the surface of the pipe.
2. Bright annealed
Seamless pipe is made of stainless steel blank through crimping and coiling process. Annealing is the key stage of material quality to eliminate residual stress and uniform structure. For smooth application, requiring bright annealing. Compared with BA welded pipe, Ba is annealed in off-line annealing furnace. ASTM A269 usually stipulates that bright annealed is used for instrument pipe.

What the Difference Between Bright Annealing and Solution Annealing?
Bright annealing is processed in a closed furnace. This controllable atmosphere minimizes surface oxidation, making the surface brighter and the oxide layer thinner. Pickling is not required after bright annealing because the oxidation degree is very low. Without pickling, the surface is smoother, which leads to better pitting resistance. Use shielding gas inserted inside.
Compared with solution annealed products, bright annealed products have slightly higher hardness and higher tensile strength.
Solution annealing is a standard step for stainless steel materials. It is an open-air annealing. It is usually used to soften materials, minimize residual stress, improve processability and increase ductility. Some anneals require only a few minutes of temperature, while others can prolong the soaking time and control the cooling rate of high temperature, usually between 1010 º C and 1150 º C.
