ASTM A268 SMLS TP409 Ferritic Martensitic Boiler Tubes

This specification covers a number of grades of nominal-wall-thickness, stainless steel tubing for general corrosion-resisting and high-temperature service. Most of these grades are commonly known as the “straight-chromium” types and are characterized by being ferromagnetic.
TP409 stainless steel, due to its good corrosion resistance and high temperature strength, it is widely used in automotive exhaust systems, gas burners, waste incinerators, home appliances, and construction. In addition, it has good processing properties and is easy to cut, weld and form. Besides, due to its low cost, it is an economical choice in some applications where corrosion resistance is required.

Heat Treatment
As a final heat treatment, tubes shall be reheated to a temperature of 1200°F [650°C] or higher and cooled (as appropriate for the grade) to meet the requirements of this specification
