Pressure Vessel Carbon Steel Tubesheet

Heat Exchanger Parts ASTM A266

ASTM A266 / ASME SA266 Gr.3N Carbon Steel Tubesheet for Pressure Vessel

ASTM A266 carbon steel tubesheet is a component used in heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and boilers. It is a normalized version of ASTM A266 GR.3 carbon steel, which means it undergoes a heat treatment process to improve its mechanical properties and toughness at lower temperatures. GR.3N carbon steel tubesheets can be easily welded and fabricated. They exhibit good weldability, allowing for efficient assembly and construction of heat exchangers and pressure vessels.

High Strength and Toughness: The normalization process enhances the mechanical properties of ASTM A266 GR.3N carbon steel, resulting in improved strength and toughness. This allows tubesheets made from this material to withstand high-pressure differentials and resist cracking or deformation.

Corrosion Resistance: Carbon steel, including ASTM A266 GR.3N, is susceptible to corrosion in certain environments. To enhance the corrosion resistance of tubesheets, protective coatings or surface treatments can be applied to mitigate the effects of corrosive substances.

Heat Treatment

After forging and before reheating for heat treatment, the forgings in accordance with ASTM A266 shall be cooled in such a manner as to prevent injury and to accomplish transformation. All the ASTM A266 forgings shall be heat treated by one of the four processes: annealing, normalizing, normalizing and tempering, or liquid quenching and tempering. When tempering is performed, it shall be at a subcritical temperature, but no less than 1100°F [595°C].

"N" refers to "Normalization", which is a heat treatment process used to enhance the mechanical properties of the material, such as its strength and toughness. During normalization, the material is heated to a specific temperature, typically above the transformation range, and then cooled in air. This process helps to refine the grain structure, improve uniformity, and relieve internal stresses in the material.
