Description
904L Alloy (UNS N08904) is a super austenitic stainless steel with moderate to high corrosion resistance in a wide range of process environments. The combination of high chromium and nickel content, coupled with the addition of molybdenum and copper, guarantees good to excellent corrosion resistance, superior to 316L and 317L molybdenum reinforced stainless steel. The 904L alloy was originally developed to withstand environments containing dilute sulfuric acid. It also provides good resistance to other inorganic acids such as hot phosphoric acid as well as most organic acids. Therefore, it has excellent resistance to warm seawater and chloride attacks. The 904L is resistant to stress corrosion cracking due to the high amount of nickel in its composition. In addition, the addition of copper to these grades resists sulfuric acid and other reducing agents under both aggressive and mild conditions. Not only that, 904L alloy is easy to weld and process with standard shop manufacturing practices.
