Description
ASTM A106/ASME SA106 is the standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe applied for high temperature services. A106 pipe is American standard material, It includes three grades A, B and C, and common use grade is A106 Grade B. It used in different industries not only for pipeline systems like oil and gas, water, mineral slurry transmission, but also for boiler, construction, structural purposes.
ASTM A106 Grade B pipe is equivalent to ASTM A53 Grade B and API 5L B on chemical position and mechanical properties, in general use carbon steel and yiled strength minimum 240 MPa, tensile strength 415 Mpa.
Usually, an ASTM A106 Grade B Welded Pipe has a ferritic structure. When ASTM A106 Gr B Sch 40 is treated by solution annealing, the heating leads to restoration of the ferritic – austenitic structure. the ASTM A106 pipe could either be cold drawn or hot finished. Pipes made from A106 Grade B Material can withstand forming operations like flanging and bending.
Other industries that use A106 Grade B are – marine or Sea Water Equipment, Pharmaceutical Equipment, Specialty Chemicals, Off-Shore Oil Drilling Companies, Condensers, Heat Exchangers, Pulp and Paper Industry and Chemical Equipment. There are four types of SA 106 Gr B pipes – Seamless, Welded, Fabricated and ERW. The pipe ending for ASTM A106 Gr. B could be either Plain End, Treaded or Bevel Ended.
