ASTM A268 TP405 / UNS S40500 Ferritic Stainless Steel Seamless Tube for Heat Exchanger
Stainless steel 405 is a ferritic stainless steel grade that contains chromium as its primary alloying element, along with small amounts of nickel and manganese. Like other ferritic stainless steels, grade 405 is magnetic due to its ferritic microstructure. It offers good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and mild chemical environments. However, it is less resistant to corrosion compared to austenitic stainless steels. Stainless steel 405 can be welded using common welding techniques such as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW).
